A decision was made to approve the amendment with six (6) modifications on July 19, 2016.

Public consultation on the proposal for this decision was provided for 30 days, from March 7, 2016 to April 6, 2016. As a result of public consultation on this proposal, the Ministry received a total of 0 comments.

Six (6) modifications were added to the amendment in order to ensure that the Official Plan is consistent with the 2014 Provincial Policy Statement. Specific modifications related to the protection of natural heritage features and areas; the recognition of a proposed national marine conservation reserve, to recognize the status of Jackfish Bay under the Canada-United States Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, the provision of affordable housing (second units), and linking land use planning to asset management planning.  The Township supported the modifications through a resolution dated June 20, 2016.

Appeal Information:


Subsection 17(36) of the Planning Act provides that any person or public body who, before the plan was adopted, made oral submissions at a public meeting or written submissions to the council, may, not later than 20 days after the day that the giving of written notice under subsection 17(35) of the Planning Act has been completed, appeal all or part of the decision to the Ontario Municipal Board by filing a notice of appeal with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

When and How to File an Appeal under the Planning Act

Any notice of appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board under the Planning Act must be filed with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing no later than 20 days from the date the giving of notice under subsection 17(35) of the Planning Act is completed.

Last Date of Appeal under the Planning Act:

August 11, 2016

The notice of appeal should be sent to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to the attention of the contact at the address shown below and it must:
1. set out the planning application or specific part or parts of the planning application to which the notice of appeal applies
2. set out the reasons for the appeal, and
3. be accompanied by the fee prescribed under the Ontario Municipal Board Act in the amount of $125.00 payable by certified cheque to the Minister of Finance, Province of Ontario.

Who Can File an Appeal under the Planning Act

Under the Planning Act, only individuals, corporations or public bodies may appeal the decision of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to the Ontario Municipal Board. A notice of appeal may not be filed by an unincorporated association or group. However, a notice of appeal may be filed in the name of an individual who is a member of the association or group.

There is an additional "leave to appeal" right under the EBR. However, the Planning Act appeal provisions provide a broader right of appeal.
