The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has initiated a transportation planning study to develop a long-term, comprehensive and multi-modal transportation plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH). The study will include very long-term (50+ years) scenario analysis to inform policy and investment decisions in support of the government’s goals of addressing climate change, economic development and promoting new technology.
This study will advance multimodal transportation planning in the GGH and provide planning direction to transportation agencies and service providers for all modes, including highways, railways, regional transit systems, cycling and walking. The study will also consider linkages beyond the GGH including border crossings, shortline rail, intercity bus, ports and airports.
The main deliverable will be a 30-year multimodal transportation plan with strategies, policies and action priorities to support provincial growth, economic and environmental objectives.
The planning study will take place over the next three years and is anticipated to be completed in 2018.
