Comments received identified concern with locating the Environmental Resource Recovery Centre (ERRC) in a County forest – valued for its natural heritage function as wildlife habitat, and socially as a place for recreational activities (e.g., hiking, snowmobiling, etc.). There was also concern with potential issues associated with the long-term operation of the ERRC including groundwater and drinking (well) water contamination; odour/noise impacting surrounding agricultural and residential uses; increased truck traffic; and the risk of wildland fire. Some submissions received expressed particular issue with the site-selection process.
All public and stakeholder comments received, through this posting and directly to the Ministry, were carefully considered in the decision to approve County of Simcoe Official Plan Amendment No. 2, as modified. It is recognized the County will be subject to other approval processes and mitigation/management plans that will appropriately address concerns with the construction and long-term operation of the ERRC.
